What We Believe

"Faith…is a steady and certain knowledge of the Divine benevolence towards us, which being founded on the truth of the gratuitous promise in Christ, is both revealed to our minds, and confirmed to our hearts, by the Holy Spirit. "

- John Calvin
At First Presbyterian Church, we value our history and tradition and seeks to carry the best of our past with us into the future, while continuing to minister to a changing world.

We are committed to being a downtown church, which for us means we are dedicated to being involved in our community.

We value being a good neighbor to all people, which includes our members, as well as the community outside our walls.

We value one another’s unique contributions to our congregation and the world.

We are on a journey to worship, serve, love, grow, and dream...together

We are affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)

We believe that God is love.

We believe in Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world.

We believe the Holy Spirit is how God speaks to us, walks with us, comforts us today.

We believe in the sovereignty of God, and that same God loves us so much that God has chosen to enter into a covenant relationship with us.

We have two sacraments: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

We believe grace abounds.

We believe the Bible still speaks to us today and has a unique claim on our lives.

We believe that all people are called by God to service.

We believe that all that we have is a gift from God and that we are to be good stewards of what has been entrusted to us.

We believe that we are called to seek peace and work for justice in our community and world.
