In 2000, looking for a way to live out our mission as a downtown church, FPC learned that the Muscatine community did not offer any free weekend meals after Saturday noon, and Emmaus Cafe was formed to ensure access to a free hot meal 7 days a week in Muscatine. For 23 years and counting, thanks to the dedication of meal planners, eight sets of rotating crew chiefs, and hundreds of church and community volunteers, FPC has served a free noon lunch in our Fellowship Hall, missing only two Sundays - once due to an ice storm and the other due to a power outage. Grab and go lunches were offered during Covid-19. Since its inception, Emmaus Cafe has served 30 -80 meals each Sunday. Emmaus Cafe relies heavily on food and monetary donations from hunters and a variety of community organizations, including Faith United Church of Christ and Rock Valley Physical Therapy.
